Removal of an abdominal mass weighting 7 kg via surgical operation in Razavi Hospital
A mass weighting 7 kg was successfully removed from the abdomen of a 37-year-old woman via the surgical operation in Razavi Hospital.
The patient had a history of abdominal distention, early satiety, and gastrointestinal bleeding since about 6 months ago. A large abdominal mass with probable source of adipose tissue (liposarcoma) was detected via ultrasound and CT scan examinations.
According to Dr. Reza Roshanravan, although the tumor was large and it clung to the left kidney and spleen, we succeeded to remove it completely while preserving the kidney and spleen. This 7- kg tumor with the size of 30× 6 cm had engulfed a great part of the left side of the abdomen from the spleen to pelvis.
"Liposarcomas are benign adipose tissue tumors often observed in the adipose tissues of the leg and thigh or even abdomen, back of the arm and neck. Liposarcomas usually occur at the ages 50 to 70. They grow slowly and their symptoms can vary according to the tumor location. Pain, constipation or diarrhea and also bleeding are usually clinical manifestations of the abdominal tumors.", the surgeon finally declared.
